Concert Review: Dan + Shay

December 4, 2016

Country music duo Dan + Shay released their second studio album earlier this year that includes their lead single “From The Ground Up” and second official single “How Not To.”  The duo started gaining popularity in 2013 with their first ever single “19 You + Me,” and are currently in the middle of their third tour.

‘Obsessed’ is one word fans may use when they talk about Dan + Shay’s music, and fittingly, this is the name they chose to give their current tour.

Dan + Shay’s Obsessed Tour made its seventh stop at The Blue Note in Columbia, Missouri on Friday night and was definitely one for the books. Tickets sold out days before the event and concertgoers lined up outside the building in 39-degree weather more than two hours before the show was scheduled to start.

While people were still piling into the venue, Walker Hayes opened for the duo and started building the crowd’s energy. After he finished his set and the equipment was switched out on the stage, the building went dark. Fans knew what was coming. When the lights came back on, Dan + Shay brought the packed venue to a roar.

Singing their hit songs “Show You Off,” “Nothin’ Like You” and “19 You + Me,” the two kept the energy up and the crowd engaged. The duo also included some throwback songs from other artists on their setlist. These included “Mr. Brightside” (The Killers) and “You Give Love a Bad Name” (Bon Jovi), which gave their show an exciting twist. They then went on to sing a song written by Jesse Frasure, Megan Trainor and the duos own Shay Mooney. Currently sung by artist Rascal Flatts, “I Like The Sound Of That” gave Shay an opportunity to hit his impressive high notes. Equally impressive was the reaction of the fans when Dan + Shay began playing their smooth sounding ballad, “From The Ground Up”.

Ending the night with their current album’s title, “Obsessed” gave the two a chance to be intimate with their fans and thank them for their love and support.
